Trip Planning
First Steps:
Confirm tentative trip dates
Choose team members
If a minor travels without parents, please prepare notarized authorizations from both parents allowing their child to travel outside the US
Check for passports
If you need to acquire a passport, please begin this as soon as possible. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/apply-renew-passport/how-to-apply.html
If you already have a passport, check its expiration date. It must be valid for six months after your proposed trip.
Visas - if you are an American citizen then a visa is not required.
Purchasing Plane Tickets
You will want to look for flights going to San Pedro Sula; the airport code is SAP.
I suggest Google Flights to compare dates/times and find the cheapest flight option. I'd be very glad to help you do a little research, if this is new to you.
Allergies:
As you are planning your trip, please let me know if anyone coming has any food or other allergies so that we can coordinate well.
Vaccinations
Please check out the CDC travel recommendations. I believe Hep A and Typhoid shots are recommended. Please use your own judgement (and maybe consult with a doctor, too) in deciding if you feel it necessary to receive vaccinations. I have had both family and friends come to visit who did not opt to get any extra shots, and they did not have any problem.
You should NOT need malaria pills, unless you plan on adventuring deep into the country. There is little or no risk in my city or surrounding areas.
If you have further questions, please let me know.
Don't Drink the Water...
I only use bottled water in my apartment and will help instruct your team upon arrival on types of food precautions that might be needed.
