Honduras uses the Lempira as it's national currency.

The exchange rate is currently around 24.5 L per 1 USD.  The actual amount changes daily, but there have not been any extreme fluctuations during my years living in Honduras.

Credit Cards 

• Credit cards may be used at most restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, etc.

• Check if your credit card has a fee for international transactions - if they do, you will be charged an additional fee each time that you use your card in Honduras.

• CapitalOne credit cards and many travel credit cards are likely to NOT have an international transaction fee. Check with your provider to make sure.

• Most widely accepted credit cards for use are Master Card or Visa. Some places might accept Discover and American Express cards, but it is not guaranteed. 

Cash

• We can schedule a time at the beginning of your trip to go to the bank and exchange money. DO NOT bring $20 bills. All other bills are okay as long as they are in pristine condition (no rips, tears, writing) Fold creases are fine.

• Cash will most likely be needed for:   Small purchases, touristy items, food bought at pulperías, etc.
