Some Interesting Facts:

Where is Honduras?

Honduras is located in Central America.  We are located a little more than 1000 miles north of the equator - so yes, it's a great place to visit during your cold northern winters - I'd love to have you visit!

San Pedro Sula

SPS is the 2nd largest city in Honduras. It is located in a valley among the mountains in the northwest corner of Honduras.  SPS is a modern city with a Pizza Hut, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, etc. (but you would probably enjoy Power Chicken too!), traffic jams and even free wifi internet broadcast through 46 different traffic signals downtown. And Honduras uses the same electrical currents/outlets as the US - no adapters needed!  But we can't quite claim to be as modern as New York or Philadelphia, though. We still have some random power outages, can't drink the water and have many streets that aren't paved.  But it's a great place for you to come and visit - to see the ministries here and even bring a group of teens to learn about missions first hand. Our airport is very visitor friendly - more like the size of the Harrisburg airport instead of Dulles -  and it is only 45 minutes away.

Our ministries are mostly in the central and northwest parts of the city of San Pedro Sula.

QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS...

It is hot there?  That's the first question that everyone asks!

When I did my 2 month internship, the temperature was above 100º F almost every day.  For San Pedro Sula, the winter is from mid-November to February and the temperatures are in the mid-80's on average. The rest of the year is summertime - with temperatures in the mid to high 90's (or above...) and high humidity.  San Pedro Sula is a large city located in a valley with mountains surrounding it so the heat tends to collect and stay there.  We actually drove up into the mountains one day during my internship and people were wearing sweaters because the temperature was so much colder - it was only in the 70's.  The summer months and early fall can also receive lots of rain.

Is there religious freedom?

Yes, there is religious freedom in Honduras and we are very thankful for that.  That doesn't mean, though, that church work is just a piece of cake. The Catholic church is very influential both as a church and with the politics of the government.

Is it expensive?

The money used in Honduras is the Lempira.  About 23 Lempiras would be equal to a US $1. Whereas some things seem to be a lot cheaper in Honduras (my friend and I paid between $2-3 each for a 40 minute bus ride to a nearby town), other things are more expensive. For example, gas is slightly over a dollar per liter, which compares at $4 a gallon. The cost of living is also on the rise.

Honduras is roughly the size of Pennsylvania.
