Note on cell phones:
AIRPLANE MODE - Unless you have an international plan on your cell phone or plan to get a "chip" for while you are in Honduras, plan to put your phone on airplane mode for your flight out of the US, and KEEP your phone in airplane mode until you return to US soil. This will keep you from international roaming charges and other fees, and only allow texts and calls over wifi! Cell chips are cheap and can be obtained at a local carrier's store, provided you have identification with you (specifically, this means bringing one's passport for them to verify identity, or one will be unable to purchase the SIM chip).
COMMUNICATING WITH PEOPLE BACK HOME - When connected to wifi, you can use Facetime and iMessage for free messages and calls. For those that don't have iPhones, plan to use Skype, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp (a free app that allows for free messages/calls to any smart phone also using WhatsApp) If you have magicJack for your phone service, place the app on your phone and you can call any USA phone number for free from the app.
INTERNET - I have wifi in my apartment which will allow you to stay connected in almost any way needed except for local phone calls while you are out and around in SPS. Let me know if you need more information on how to stay connected with family back home and we can figure out which way would work best for you.
