Every day needs are easily available in SPS. But constant trips to the store for forgotten items will eat into your time and add stress when you could be enjoying your visit. Also, certain US brands might be unavailable or extremely expensive - so plan ahead if you are brand-conscious. Spend a few minutes and think through this list so that you will be prepared.
Get out your toiletries bag.
you don't need to buy one - use a large ziploc bag, a lunch box or a school supplies bag
the bag should have plastic lining in case anything should leak
Add and subtract.
Look over the list below. Cross off items that you don't use/need. Add items that you use but are not listed. Tomorrow as you get dressed, look at everything that you use. Is it listed here? If not, add it to this list.
You might want to buy travel-sized items or put some of your items in smaller containers. If you will be carrying liquid or gel items (toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc) in your carry-on, then they must be 3 oz or less in size in order to meet TSA's guidelines. (note: for carry-on, the weight on the container must say 3 oz or less - it cannot be a 6 oz tube that is only half-filled.)
Start packing items.
Put these items in your bag and don't get them out again before you leave for your trip. Don't say I'll just use this and then I'll put it back. If there is an item that you don't have duplicates and just absolutely have to use it now, write a note and put it in your toiletries bag so that you have a reminder to replace it.
If you don't have an extra of something, put it on a shopping list now so that you have plenty of time to get that item and have it packed. You don't want to be stopping at the store to buy toothpaste as you are driving to the airport.
Bag up liquid type items in a ziploc type bag before putting in your toiletries bag. Changes in air pressure on an airplane can sometimes cause leakage and it's not fun to have shampoo on your toothbrush, or hairspray soaked into your clothing.
